Photography as an emotion

" Photography is about capturing the moment which not will be repeated again."

                                       by Yaroslava Kyselia

On March 13th, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, NYC closed down and sent everyone to their homes into isolation in quarantine. My work is about representing the community outside of my apartment. I shot all of these photographs from the start of the pandemic. There are photographs included that show moments at night, and there are some that are from the day time. I captured the life of 108th Street in Forest Hills, Queens. There is also a photo from the beach at Far Rockaway. Usually the beach is a place of joy and energy, and I wanted to go see how this part of life was stopped completely. I have attempted to catch moments of people when the streets were empty and where people kept their distance from one another. I spent a lot of time walking in the night, and I showed the emptiness of my surroundings. This photo essay is for people, in the future, to see two or three years from now. I want them to always remember the pandemic during the spring of 2020.
